Choose the approach that matches how your company already consolidates its financial reporting. The approach defines which sites and sources count as yours, so it sets the boundary of your whole inventory.
The form offers three options (GHG Protocol Corporate Standard):
- Financial control: you include 100% of the emissions of operations you control financially, meaning you can direct their financial and operating policies to obtain economic benefit.
- Operational control: you include 100% of the emissions of operations where you (or a subsidiary) have full authority to introduce and implement operating policies.
- Equity share: you include emissions in proportion to your ownership share of each operation. Write your percentage in the Notes column of each site in Sites.
Steps
- Open the Organization tab of the Corporate Carbon form and go to the Consolidation approach field.
- Select one of the three approaches.
- In the Sites tab, include all the sites that fall within the approach you chose.
Good to know
- If you are unsure, ask your finance team which approach your annual report uses and pick the same one.
- Choose it once and keep it from year to year. Changing it makes your results not comparable with previous years.
- The approach you pick determines the value of the “Included in this report?” column for each site.
