How does BCome fight greenwashing?

Greenwashing means presenting a product or a company as more sustainable than it really is, and it is no longer just a reputational risk. It is a legal one too. Directive (EU) 2024/825 on Empowering Consumers for the Green Transition has applied since 27 September 2026. It bans generic environmental claims that can’t be substantiated, such as “eco”, “sustainable” or “environmentally friendly”. It also bans claims that credit a whole product with a benefit that only applies to part of it. At the same time, the proposed Green Claims Directive and the EU’s PEF (Product Environmental Footprint) method point the way forward: every claim must be backed by verifiable data and a recognised methodology.

At BCome, we build our results on that principle. Here’s how:

Claims backed by data

Behind every piece of data we provide there is a scientific methodology, and anyone who wants to consult it can access it. We also encourage our clients to share it with their end consumers and explain how their impact data was obtained. The more open the process, the more credible the claim.

A clear scope

Our life cycle assessment covers everything from raw material extraction to product manufacturing (cradle-to-gate). That’s why every claim always refers to the impact of that specific product within that scope. It never refers to general benefits or to stages we haven’t measured.

Assumptions and limitations in plain sight

The assumptions and limitations of the BCome methodology are documented in detail. This is what ISO 14040 and 14044 require: they must be defined when setting the goal and scope of the study. Where data is missing or inconclusive, clients can choose to collect primary data directly at the production site.

Up-to-date data

We work with the best data available at any given time. We review it twice a year to replace anything that has become outdated and to add newly published data.

Our commitment

Reliability and transparency. We continuously update our methodology so that what you communicate about your products is accurate and stands up in front of any consumer, auditor or authority.
