Environmental cost: FAQs & Compliance

When does the regulation take effect?

October 1st, 2025. If you display any environmental claim on your products sold in France after this date, you must show the Environmental Cost label.

What happens if I don’t comply?

Non-compliance can result in fines and removal of environmental claims from your products. The French DGCCRF (consumer protection agency) enforces these rules.

Do I need a new score for every product variant?

Yes. Each reference (SKU) needs its own score, as different materials or compositions can have different environmental impacts. All GTINs associated with the same reference will share the same label and score, regardless of size or color.

Can I use BCome’s existing LCA data?

Yes. BCome automatically converts your LCA data to the Ecobalyse format and submits it through the official API.

How long does integration take?

Once you confirm the delegation on the Ecobalyse portal, the integration is instantaneous. Label generation depends on the number of references (typically, catalogue synchronisation takes 1 to 3 business days).

Where should I display the Environmental Cost label?

The label must be visible wherever environmental claims are made: e-commerce product pages, physical hang tags, shelf displays, or marketing materials.
